Workshop Overview

In order for English language learners to have access to academic content, they must develop strong literacy skills.  In this interactive workshop, participants will be introduced to strategies for building student literacy. The workshop will cover strategies for teaching language and content, effective activities for promoting reading and writing skills, and ways to integrate all four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) into literacy activities. In addition, participants will complete a self-evaluation and reflect on their own languages courses. This workshop is appropriate for K-12 ESOL teachers.

Workshop Presenter

Audrey Kratovil teaches ESL at TC Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. She holds a BA in Spanish and an MAT in ESL from Georgetown University. Audrey has taught English overseas in Spain, as well as in the United States. She currently serves as a founding member of TC Williams' Literacy Council and gives regular professional development workshops to her colleagues on literacy strategies in the classroom specifically targeted at the ESL population. Audrey is also fluent in Spanish.
